A little girl’s cottage-style bedroom
She had one initial request: make it pink!
We paired the lovely pink walls with sunny yellow and white checkered curtains. A heirloom quilt inspired the rest of the color palette and included muted shades of blues and greens. A buttery yellow soft cotton rug completes the look.
Design Notes
-
Functional needs
-Space to sleep, as well as to draw, color, play on the floor and read
-Lots of space for books
-Ability of room to also function as a guest room on occasion, with full sized bed and nightstands
-
Challenges
-Best place for bed was up against window, which is not always ideal as light can be blocked
-Room to fit full sized bed so room could double as guest bedroom
-Creating a “pink” room that didn’t feel overly juvenile
-
Solutions
- Selected a full sized bed frame with a beautiful open design headboard that allows light to flow through (a Facebook marketplace find!)
-Incorporated lots of yellows, greens and blues to balance the pink walls.
-
Favorite Design Elements
-Heirloom “friendship quilt” that originally belonged to her great grandmother. The quilt was used as inspiration for the room’s color palette
-Vintage lamp, paired with a DIY lampshade cover
-Lots of colorful artwork, including thrifted vintage art finds
